Dulini Anabezi Lodge
Lower Zambezi National Park
Explore pristine and untouched wilderness in one of Africa’s most remote safari destinations. Dulini Anabezi sits on the banks of the Zambezi River in a secluded corner in the eastern area of Lower Zambezi National Park. Far from the majority of other camps, Dulini Anabezi is surrounded by the iconic Winterthorn forest, renowned by safari experts, professional photographers and documentary film crews. The name Anabezi is derived from the many Ana Trees, also called Winterthorns. These Winterthorns drop yellow pods which attract a wide variety of animals to the area including many elephants, a welcome sight in the camp. The camp is elevated on a boardwalk and comprises of eleven luxury tents and one luxury family tent at the edge of a ridge providing magnificent views of both the Zambezi River and Mushika River flood plain. The elevated boardwalk allows for wildlife to roam freely throughout camp while minimizing effects on the ecosystem. It also means guests can walk around safely during the day without an escort. Elephants, buffalo, antelope – and even the occasional lion or leopard – often pass through camp, allowing you to experience wildlife from the comfort of your tent. Each tent….
features an indoor en-suite bathroom with Victorian style soaking bathtub, and an outdoor bathroom complete with outdoor shower. All rooms are connected to the camp’s main areas by a raised wooden boardwalk and designed for maximum privacy, creating a personal haven amidst the Zambian wilderness. The family tent features two connected rooms, one king with an en-suite bathroom and an outdoor bathroom, and one twin room with private bathroom, both of which share the same viewing deck and plunge pool. The plain hosts year-round grazing and offers spectacular diverse game viewing from the comfort of your tent!
The boardwalk connects all tents to two separate decks with swimming pools and bar: Mushika Deck and pool are on the far end of the boardwalk. A nearby watering hole attracts wildlife like resident elephants and buffalos, warthogs bathing in the mud, antelope and the Anabezi troop of baboons, making it an ideal spot for wildlife viewing. Zambezi Deck includes the main dining area and pool, in the center of boardwalk equidistant from tents. As its namesake implies, the Zambezi Deck provides sweeping views of the Zambezi River and the floodplain, with daily visits from elephants, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, warthogs and a variety of birds. Watch the wildlife from the swimming pool, while you’re having lunch or from one of the many lounging areas and take in the surrounding landscape. It’s not uncommon to get up close views of elephants drinking, bathing and crossing the Zambezi River to one of its many islands.
Game Drives
Venture out in the early morning and the late afternoon to witness the glory of the bush. Enjoy a private sundowner watching elephants crossing the mighty Zambezi, or your coffee in the morning in the absolute splendor of the Winterthorn forest after an exciting morning tracking lion. A night game drive when darkness falls sees another world coming to life. Cats head out to hunt, hyenas emerge with empty stomachs, and civets and genets scurry about. This is what makes night drives so special: the chance to see what happens after dark in true wilderness. These drives are kept short - night is also a time to allow nature to take its course unbothered, but you will have the opportunity to see some exceptional moments under the stars on your way back to camp.
Boat Cruises
Cruising down the Zambezi River allows you to experience Lower Zambezi from a different perspective. At eye level with the rich aquatic ecosystem, watch elephants bath and swim from island to island, G&T in hand, while the sun sets behind the escarpment. You’ll also spot buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, and antelope perched on the river bank floating in our custom-fitted pontoon boats.
Canoeing
Paddle the winding waterways of the channels, pausing for hippos and watching elephants. The Zambezi River is one of Africa’s top canoeing safari destinations, where you can enjoy the peacefulness of the water while observing its vibrant wildlife. All canoeing activities are with an experienced, certified professional guide.
Walking Safaris
Encounter the bush at its best - on foot with experienced guides, watch as they explain the art of tracking animals from their spoor and listen as they unravel the symbiosis of species that make up the rich tapestry of life in the bush. Zambia is widely considered the birthplace of the walking safari, pioneered by legendary conservationist Norman Carr. Herein lies the opportunity to get out of the vehicle and explore the bush on foot, accompanied by a top-level professional guide and an armed National Parks Wildlife Officer. This unique and exhilarating safari provides insight into the complex ecosystem of the bush, allowing you to expand your knowledge and meet some of the smaller creatures often missed on a drive. Zambia is one of only a handful of destinations where walking safaris are permitted in national parks without private concessions.
Fishing
Whether a keen angler or complete beginner, catching a Tiger Fish is one for the bucket list. With a selection of rods, reels, and all necessary tackle, our coxswains will guide you through the cast, play, landing, and of course the trophy shot before releasing back into the water.
