Idube Game Lodge
Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve
Idube Safari Lodge is located in the prestigious western sector of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, one of the most productive Big Five areas in southern Africa. From above, the reserve looks like a forest, a lush pocket of bush punctuated by a dry riverbed that runs below the main deck. The camp is laid out along raised walkways that keep foot traffic off the ground, and central gathering points include a glass-walled gazebo overlooking resident nyala, a fire pit, a boma for dinners under the stars and a well-stocked cellar with South African and international wines. In addition, the wellness space, Baobab Spa, offers a range of treatments and there’s a fully equipped gym for those looking to work out between safari activities. The lodge comprises fourteen suites: two Makubela Suites, eight Safari Suites and four Linked Suites suitable for families or friends travelling together. Every air-conditioned suite has a private deck and plunge pool. Bathrooms feature either a combined indoor-outdoor shower with a glass roof or separate indoor and outdoor showers. With no boundary fences between the Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park, this reserve benefits from the great diversity of animals found in one of the….
richest wildlife areas on the African continent, along with the additional benefits experienced on a private game reserve.
Early morning game and a late afternoon into evening game drive traverse an area of 24,700 acres. Home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo, as well as giraffe, impalas, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippo, wild dog and jackals, to name but a few. Animals are usually seen from very close quarters with the sightings professionally handled and controlled by very experienced guides and trackers. Drives are normally three to four hours long, with a stop along the way for tea, coffee or sundowners and snacks. Idube is particularly well known for the frequent and excellent sightings of leopards - a photographer's dream come true. After breakfast, a morning walk with a professional field guide is available. As well as viewing some of the usual game, this is a great opportunity to view smaller creature’s close-up as well as many beautiful African birds.
Back at the lodge the Shadulu Swing Bridge leads to a hide overlooking a waterhole. This is a great spot for both photography and quiet, unhurried wildlife watching between drives.
