Waterbuck Game Lodge

Thornybush Nature Reserve

Lush, green, teaming with life. The grazing place of the great herds, the stalking ground of predators. The African bush is at its most spectacular when water is plentiful and Waterbuck Lodge, situated on a dammed estuary in a high-water table area in the south of the Thornybush Reserve, is an ideal destination to experience the abundance of life that water attract – including the largest elephant herd in the reserve. Comprising just four air-conditioned suites that are located for maximum privacy each offers marvelous views of the lodge’s lush green surroundings while the large thatched open plan dining and lounge area offers supreme comfort. A wonderful breakfast deck with a bar and very private family-sized pool overlooks the estuary and helps complete the appeal of this intimate destination. Typically the day starts as dawn breaks over the African bushveld. After an early morning wake-up call, coffee, tea and rusks are served on the main deck. Shortly after, depart in an open Land Rover with experienced Rangers and Trackers who will share their extensive knowledge of the bush. After a sumptuous breakfast is served either back at…

the camp or in the riverbed or bush, you have the opportunity of guided walks which are accompanied by an armed ranger and tracker. Alternatively, between game drives you might decide to spend lazy afternoons by the pool, or spending time with a cocktail in the elevated viewing hide, or just relaxing on the deck from where you will spot a myriad of animals from your large cane wing back chair. If you want some pampering you can make use of the Amani Spa situated at Thornybush Game Lodge. You will be transferred to the spa for your treatment and returned back to Serondella thereafter. The afternoon game drive is preceded by high tea and extends into the evening to view seldom seen nocturnal species by torchlight. Upon returning for a gourmet three course dinner, either in the boma, bush or lodge - you can socialize with a cognac, single malt or cigar around the campfire or lounge before returning to bed for another day's adventure.
