Londolozi Private Granite Suites
Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve
Londolozi is a world-renowned, private game reserve spanning 34,000 acres along the banks of the Sand River in the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. Wild animals move freely across this vast space, offering spectacular game viewing and a true wilderness experience. A Londolozi safari is an immersion into the heart of the wilderness. Breeding herds of elephant and buffalo roam throughout Londolozi, while white rhino and lion concentrations are among the highest recorded on the African continent. Yet it’s the leopards of Londolozi that make it world famous for wildlife and lie at the heart of the Londolozi safari. Over the course of more than four decades, a unique relationship has developed between the Londolozi guides, trackers and generations of wild leopards. Intimate leopard sightings are frequent here, an experience that Londolozi safari guests agree is a pinnacle life experience. Londolozi operates five exquisite camps which offer blissful accommodation, profound vistas, and authentic African cuisine. All Londolozi camps offer the same access to the reserve with some of the best Big Five game viewing in Africa, led by some of the continent’s….
most knowledgeable guides and trackers.
Each Londolozi safari camp varies in levels of exclusivity. The Private Granite Suites are the crème de la crème of the Londolozi portfolio, followed closely by Pioneer Camp and Tree Camp, who all carry the prestigious global standard of excellence – Relais & Châteaux. Founders Camp and Varty Camp are orientated towards families on safari and larger groups of up to twenty travelers.
Londolozi’s Private Granite Suites are a celebration of elegance and elephants in a remarkable river setting, flanked by an extrusion of ancient granite rocks. This highly exclusive camp conveys Africa’s raw essence with a contemporary flavor. A sunset river bar and sunken cocktail lounge rest above the Sand River, where large breeding herds of elephants wander over the ancient river ways.
The central area at Private Granite Suites strikes a perfect balance, substantial enough to feel like a proper safari lodge, intimate enough that just a few never feel lost in the space. Set beneath a high thatched roof that provides natural cooling, the main area opens completely to elevated decks suspended above the Sand River. The lounge, anchored by a fireplace that becomes the evening’s focal point, uses the same silver and charcoal palette as the suites but adds layers of texture through carefully chosen fabrics and natural materials. Deep sofas encourage lingering over coffee or afternoon drinks, positioned to watch elephants approach the river below. The dining area, while capable of hosting all six guests together, more often sees couples at separate tables, maintaining privacy while sharing the space. The bar, suspended high above the river in its own architectural statement, becomes a sunset institution that never feels crowded.
Outside, the rim-flow pool built into the granite rocks represents engineering married to aesthetics. Unlike the private suite pools, this communal pool offers a different perspective, positioned to observe wildlife approaching from multiple directions. The pool deck, carved from the living rock, provides loungers positioned for all-day sun or shade depending on preference.
The three suites blend the boundaries between inside and outside, creating a seamless integration with nature with large doors and windows opening directly onto the Sand River. Each suite has a luxurious outdoor bath and a private, heated swimming pool. This luxury safari lodge is for the discerning traveler who appreciates the finer details.
Game drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who amongst them have a wealth of 350 years of experience. With over 34,000 acres of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same. Trackers sit up at the front of the Land Rover looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers drive with astonishing skill into ravines and through thicket in pursuit of elusive animals, simultaneously wowing guests with their outstanding knowledge and unforgettable stories.
On returning from the morning game drive and fortifying yourself with breakfast you can either retire to the cool sanctuary of your suite or indulge a myriad of bushveld activities before the late afternoon game drive. Options include guided bush walks, wellness treatments, stargazing, birdwatching and Shangaan cultural visits or the less energetic can simply curl up with a book from the Camp’s library. Many activities can be found within a short walk and include the Guest Gym, Photographic Studio and Living Boutique as well as the restorative Healing House.
