Londolozi Founders Camp
Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve
Londolozi is a world-renowned, private game reserve spanning 35,000 acres along the banks of the Sand River in the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. Wild animals move freely across this vast space, offering spectacular game viewing and a true wilderness experience. A Londolozi safari is an immersion into the heart of the wilderness. Breeding herds of elephant and buffalo roam throughout Londolozi, while white rhino and lion concentrations are among the highest recorded on the African continent. Yet it’s the leopards of Londolozi that make it world famous for wildlife and lie at the heart of the Londolozi safari. Over the course of more than four decades, a unique relationship has developed between the Londolozi guides, trackers and generations of wild leopards. Intimate leopard sightings are frequent here, an experience that Londolozi safari guests agree is a pinnacle life experience. Londolozi operates five exquisite camps which offer blissful accommodation, profound vistas, and authentic African cuisine. All Londolozi camps offer the same access to the reserve with some of the best Big Five game viewing in Africa, led by some of the continent’s…
most knowledgeable guides and trackers.
Each Londolozi safari camp varies in levels of exclusivity. The Private Granite Suites are the crème de la crème of the Londolozi portfolio, followed closely by Pioneer Camp and Tree Camp, who all carry the prestigious global standard of excellence – Relais & Châteaux. Founders Camp and Varty Camp are orientated towards families on safari and larger groups of up to twenty travelers.
Londolozi Founders Camp honors past guests and staff who have contributed to building Londolozi. It’s their efforts that have distilled the legacy of the past forty years into a common mission. Enchanting and intimate, Founders Camp is a bushveld bohemia ideally situated to provide you with an insider’s view of the Londolozi families rich and warm history. Overlooking the Sand River, the camp has a classic safari feel. Around a main dining and lounge area and bar, there is plenty of space from where to watch the wildlife action at the river. If it gets too hot, cool off in the pool, which is connected to a game viewing deck by a wooden walkway, or find shade on the yoga deck – dramatically suspended in the branches of a 500-year-old ebony tree.
Dining is a fabulous affair, enjoyed outside on the dining deck, around the campfire in the traditional boma, or in the main thatched dining room. Leading off on either side, you’ll find ten riverside chalets shaded by ancient trees with private views from an outdoor deck, as well as a heated plunge pool, outdoor showers, and a covered sala. Some chalets are slightly larger to accommodate families, featuring a lounge with fireplace and enough space to accommodate two children. Founders Camp excels in family safaris and also offers a supervised Cubs Den program for children.
Game drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who amongst them have a wealth of 350 years of experience. With over 34,000 acres of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same. Trackers sit up at the front of the Land Rover looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers drive with astonishing skill into ravines and through thicket in pursuit of elusive animals, simultaneously wowing guests with their outstanding knowledge and unforgettable stories.
On returning from the morning game drive and fortifying yourself with breakfast you can either retire to the cool sanctuary of your chalet or indulge a myriad of bushveld activities before the late afternoon game drive. Options include guided bush walks, wellness treatments, stargazing, birdwatching and Shangaan cultural visits or the less energetic can simply curl up with a book from the Camp’s library. Many activities can be found within a short walk from Tree Camp. These include the Guest Gym, Photographic Studio and Living Boutique as well as the restorative Healing House.
