Londolozi Pioneer Camp

Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

Londolozi is a world-renowned, private game reserve spanning 34,000 acres along the banks of the Sand River in the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. Wild animals move freely across this vast space, offering spectacular game viewing and a true wilderness experience.  A Londolozi safari is an immersion into the heart of the wilderness. Breeding herds of elephant and buffalo roam throughout Londolozi, while white rhino and lion concentrations are among the highest recorded on the African continent. Yet it’s the leopards of Londolozi that make it world famous for wildlife and lie at the heart of the Londolozi safari. Over the course of more than four decades, a unique relationship has developed between the Londolozi guides, trackers and generations of wild leopards. Intimate leopard sightings are frequent here, an experience that Londolozi safari guests agree is a pinnacle life experience. Londolozi operates five exquisite camps which offer blissful accommodation, profound vistas, and authentic African cuisine. All Londolozi camps offer the same access to the reserve with some of the best Big Five game viewing in Africa, led by some of the continent’s….

most knowledgeable guides and trackers.

Each Londolozi safari camp varies in levels of exclusivity. The Private Granite Suites are the crème de la crème of the Londolozi portfolio, followed closely by Pioneer Camp and Tree Camp, who all carry the prestigious global standard of excellence – Relais & Châteaux. Founders Camp and Varty Camp are orientated towards families on safari and larger groups of up to twenty travelers.

Londolozi’s Private Granite Suites are a celebration of elegance and elephants in a remarkable river setting, flanked by an extrusion of ancient granite rocks. This highly exclusive camp conveys Africa’s raw essence with a contemporary flavor. A sunset river bar and sunken cocktail lounge rest above the Sand River, where large breeding herds of elephants wander over the ancient river ways.

Set amongst the dappled shade of 500-year-old ebony trees, Pioneer Camp is the culmination of five decades of design experience in the safari industry. Pioneer Camp’s three interconnected luxury suites and generous bush homestead make this the most secluded and flexible of the Londolozi camps. The private suites have superb river views and are perfect for honeymoons and secluded getaways. The camp can easily be converted into a bush homestead for private multi-generational family groups of between six and twelve people.

Now boasting a refreshed ‘explorer lounge’, interactive kitchen, lookout deck, breakfast balcony, and full-length lap pool, Pioneer Camp is the most intimate family-run safari homestead in Southern Africa. Every touch and feature in Pioneer Camp is deeply personal. It is an ideal setting for a new generation of sophisticated travelers in search of the perfect combination of unstructured freedom and top end experiential and personal luxury.

The camp has just three luxury suites, each opening onto river views. Inspired by Ralph Lauren’s refined aesthetic, the interiors pair contemporary finishes with classic elegance. You will find large windows frames, superb Sand River views, extra-length king-size beds, expansive wooden decks and private plunge pools. Generous bathrooms feature marble finishes and indoor and outdoor showers.

Game drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who amongst them have a wealth of 350 years of experience. With over 34,000 acres of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same. Trackers sit up at the front of the Land Rover looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers drive with astonishing skill into ravines and through thicket in pursuit of elusive animals, simultaneously wowing guests with their outstanding knowledge and unforgettable stories.

On returning from the morning game drive and fortifying yourself with breakfast you can either retire to the cool sanctuary of your suite or indulge a myriad of bushveld activities before the late afternoon game drive. Options include guided bush walks, wellness treatments, stargazing, birdwatching and Shangaan cultural visits or the less energetic can simply curl up with a book from the Camp’s library. Many activities can be found within a short walk and include the Guest Gym, Photographic Studio and Living Boutique as well as the restorative Healing House.
