Marataba is a malaria-free 56,800 acre private concession within the Big Five Marakele National Park. A spectacularly beautiful place. You’ll be rendered breathless by the dramatic Waterberg mountains, vast plains, rich animal diversity and winding rivers cutting through the landscape of the Marakele National Park. Rich red mountain rock meets lush green plains (where you will find yellowwood and cedar trees, 18ft high cycads and tree ferns). All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Only Marataba Safari Lodge and Marataba Mountain Lodge share this vast area of pristine natural ground, promising a highly personal and exclusive private safari experience. At Marataba you will indulge in supreme luxury in exotic tented suites, an intriguing mix of canvas, timber and stone, exquisitely furnished and decorated. On the menu for your pleasure is a smorgasbord of activities – twice daily game drives, walking trails, sunset river excursions on Miss Mara where nothing tops watching the sun shimmy into a liquid horizon in vivid colors as you sip on a G n’ T to the splash of a grunting hippo, to name a few.
